The Science - Binaural Beats

The year was 1839 and a German experimenter named H. W. Dove discovered binaural beats. Our ability to hear these beats is as a result of our evolutionary process.

What are binaural beats? Binaural beats (unique to humans) are our ability to hear differing sound wave frequency (measured in Hertz (Hz)) and then rationalizing the tones. This is extremely important because the tones aren’t just processed by our brain as two distinct sounds; it does something different with the sound waves, it downsizes them. But something specific needs to happen first, the sounds and/or tones need to be isolated in each ear. This is accomplished with the use of stereo headphones.

Let’s look at an example of what happens to the sound. If the first tone that you hear has a value of 100Hz (in your left ear) and the other tone has a value of 115Hz (in your right ear). Your brain hears the two tones and then over a period of time, gradually slows down the beats until they become identical. In this case 100Hz, leaving the remaining beat of 15 Hz as the sound/tone/beat that the brain processes.

Why is this important?

Coincidently, brain wave activity is also measured in Hertz (Hz). The level/frequency of your brain waves is directly related to your mental activity. The following chart illustrates this

Frequency range

Name

Usually associated with:

13-40 Hz

Beta waves

Attention, wakeful activity, sports

7-13 Hz

Alpha waves

Relaxation day dreaming, creativity

4-7 Hz

Theta waves

Dreams, rapid eye movement, deep meditation

<4 Hz

Delta waves

Deep dreamless sleep, body rejuvenates itself

Are you beginning to connect the dots yet? Imagine if you could provide a stimulus that would encourage the brain to match a sound/tone frequency. Do you think that this could be useful in attaining deep levels of meditation for instance or even a drug free to stimulate sleep? Well in most cases this is exactly what happens. When you introduce a beat frequency of let’s say 5 Hz. your brain wave frequency matches what it is processing and you move into a level associated with deep level meditation (like an old Buddhist Monk).

The benefit of using a tool such as binaural beats, you eliminate the need for long periods of practice to achieve results. Imagine listening to a stereo recording of a binaural beat designed to encourage deep meditation, and you achieve the results in seven days or less. The process is safe, portable, and easy to use.

One of the benefits that many of our clients have told us about, the outcome seems to be cumulative. In other words the more you use the process the easier and more profound the effects.
